Year 5 Students And Their Adaptation Projects
In this unit we have been learning about animal adaptations. Students were then given the opportunity to research different animals and compare them using a Venn Diagram. The year 5s were given a project book to work through. They started with creating an imaginary and unique animals. They used various animals’ adaptations and combined them into their very own creature. Once they had created 2, they then needed to decide on which animal they wanted to continue with. Students identified their animals’ physical and behavioural adaptations.
Next step was identifying and creating their unique animal's habitat. They also described the habitat’s climate and type while including what food and shelter their animal would need. In the Lab this week, students worked in pairs/groups of three to create one habitat that would meet all their animals needs.
In their small groups they painted their shadow boxes, most created their actual animal design out of clay and then added final details to their environments. Each student had to create their own unique animal as they had planned them in their project books.
Finally students added final detail to their habitats. The final projects done so far, are the Year 5 Group 2 students. After Hostlov Group 1 students will complete their habitats during their Lab lesson.
